Homeschool Mother's Journal: Giveaways, quilts and cars

In my life this week...
Our internet died again and has been down for 5 days.
I posted a giveaway- $20 gift certificate for DaySpring and there is still time to enter...

In our homeschool this week...
What an interesting week this has been. Ms. Books had the amazing opportunity to learn to quilt from a sweet friend of mine. My friend was up visiting for a couple of days while her husband is hunting and she knew Ms. Books was very interested in making a quilt. Ms. Books managed to squeeze two days of schooling into one so she would have ample time to work on the quilt. My friend says she is a natural. They cut it out one day and she pieced the top together the next. She hopes to have the borders on within the next couple of weeks and be ready to put it all together when my friend visits again in December. I kept Sassafras and Mr. Conductor on track both days and my friend got a kick out of glimpsing a tidbits of our homeschool days.
Plus: Mr. Conductor made a pumpkin pie in his co-op cooking class. He's a great cook. Ms. Books signed "Happy Birthday" to her bestie (thanks to our ASL class) and Sassafras crocheted... something. I'm not exactly sure what it is, to be truthful, but she sure enjoyed the learning process.

Helpful homeschooling tips and advice to share...
Don't forget you can count real life experiences as schooling. Ms. Books has worked diligently this week on that quilt plus started a quilted table runner for me. She's learning a valuable skill, plus time management, and budgeting (she purchased all the materials herself). For a research project she researched cottage businesses, spoke to her uncle who started his own internet business and has wrote her own simple business plan for a little sewing business.  So classwise- she's got finance/accounting, business, home ec, and math covered.

My favorite thing this week was…
Watching Ms. Book catch on to quilting so easily and work diligently. The JOY on her face was priceless!

Things I’m working on…
I continue to work on the family schedule. We were able to schedule some much needed downtime last weekend and two nights this week we had family game time... something we had really missed.
I also did some revamping for the Michigan History class I teach with our co-op plus I wrote up a simple "how-to"  packet for the small 5 paragraph research paper I've assigned the students to write.

I’m grateful for… God's amazing provision. For family and friends who gladly share their skill sets with my children (and me). My wonderful neighbor and techie guy who was able to transfer the dead laptop's hard drive to another refurb computer... thereby saving all my "stuff"... Most importantly, Sassafras's math grades. The cute little heater that we can haul room to room to keep us toasty without bumping up the thermostat. Homemade honey oatmeal bread... warm. Salsa and chips. Chapstick. Homeschooling and the adventures it brings.....
